Muswellbrook Shire Concert Band

Muswellbrook Shire Concert Band grew out of the ashes of the Muswellbrook Brass Band.

The Band was established in 1965 under the baton of Ron Bailey, one of only six accredited Bandmasters in NSW.

It was established as a Concert Band, being the first non-military Concert Band in NSW.

The Band is holding a celebration on 28-29th October 2006 to mark 40 years of banding.

The Band draws its members from Muswellbrook, Denman, Aberdeen, Scone and Merriwa, as well as co-opting other members on occasion from Singleton and Sydney.

Many players moving from other areas, at all levels of musicianship, have found a welcome in the Band. New members are always welcome.

Trophies

In 1994, the Junior Band members were the D Grade National Champions.

In 2005, the Senior Band won both the C Grade East Coast Championship and the C Grade NSW Championships.

Performances

The Band plays for:

  • Muswellbrook Shire Australia Day Celebrations
  • Anzac Day at both Muswellbrook and Denman,
  • Festivals, Open Days, Official Openings,
  • Carols and concerts
  • Food and Wine Festival
  • Music Festivals
  • Dinners

It has produced many successful productions in co-operation with Muswellbrook Amateur Theatrical Society.

The Band encourages members to start at an early age playing with the Beginner Band, then moving onto the
Junior and Senior Bands.

A Jazz Group also performs.

Some players also play with their school bands, and this is encouraged.

The current Senior and Junior Bands are under the baton of Russell Passfield, who has played with the Band from its second year. He is assisted by Janelle French, a local music teacher and clarinet player.
