Upper Hunter Community Services is an incorporated association
which, auspices 18 community projects throughout the Upper Hunter region.
The following services are based in the QE 11 Community Centre.
The Centre is open:
9am – 4pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday; and
10am – 4pm Wednesday.

Aboriginal Family Worker                                                                         Email: afw@uhcs.org.au
Primary focus on assisting new parents and families with children aged 0 – 8 years, in a culturally appropriate way to enhance parents’ skills to improve educational, social and health outcomes for their children. Areas covered within the Upper Hunter region: Muswellbrook, Merriwa, Scone, Aberdeen, Denman, Murrurundi and Singleton.


Job Placement Employment & Training (JPET)                                Email: jpet@uhcs.org.au
Works with disconnected young people to address social and economic barriers. JPET target group is young people 15-21 (priority given to 15-19 yr olds) who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Other target groups in the same age range include: refugees, ex-offenders, young people currently or formerly in state care and geographically isolated young people. Service delivery covers Muswellbrook, Singleton, Scone and Merriwa.

MNS provides information, referral, advocacy and support. MNS provides emergency relief as per service guidelines and policy directives (eg food and electricity vouchers); needle and syringe exchange; computer access; and baby capsule and room hire. MNS supports community groups and initiatives. MNS services Muswellbrook local government area: Muswellbrook, Denman, Sandy Hollow, Wybong, Baerami, lower Aberdeen and surrounds.

PSP provides individualised support for people experiencing problems that affect their capacity to enter the workforce. Client referral through Centrelink. Area covered: Muswellbrook, Singleton, Murrurundi, Merriwa, Scone, Denman and Willow Tree.

Upper Hunter Crisis Accommodation Service                              Email: uhcas@uhcs.org.au
UHCAS provides assistance into short term accommodation for people who
are homeless. The service covers Muswellbrook, Merriwa, Murrurundi, Scone,
Denman, Singleton and surrounding areas. Out of hours please contact the police or hospital.

UHFSS offers assistance to families who may be experiencing difficulties. Support may include parenting education, court support, financial information, referral, home visiting, support letters, group work, and assistance with Centrelink and Dept of Housing. Service coverage includes: Muswellbrook, Murrurundi, Merriwa, Denman, Scone, Aberdeen and surrounding districts. This service also has an Aboriginal Family Worker for aboriginal families with children aged 0-8 years.

Upper Hunter Training is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) able to deliver nationally recognised training with a focus on training and development in the Upper Hunter and Lower Hunter area. UHT is able to customise training to meet clients’ needs.

The YDO provides support to existing youth services and has a role in identifying the needs of the youth sector and developing appropriate strategies. UHYDO aims to promote positive perceptions of young people in the community.

Key function is to enhance parents’ skills and confidence in raising children, to improve children’s health and well-being. A multi purpose outreach service providing access to services and support for families in South Muswellbrook and anyone from outlying areas, who need a break or support. Outreach includes: Department of Housing, early childhood nurse, supported playgroups, speech pathology, Playtime once a fortnight. Also the Centre can be a venue for groups, recreational and holiday activities.

Support service for all who face a life limiting illness. Support and palliative care for terminally ill people and cancer clients. Volunteer visitors. Palliative care equipment as advised by medical professionals. Transport to appointments.

Housing scheme which provides low cost supported accommodation for women and their dependent children for up to 12 months. Support services include personal support, living and household management skills and assistance in finding long term housing.
